Core Module 1
Outline: This module acts a general introduction to volcanic systems, their deposits and how they relate to volcanic basins. It should act as a building block to help develop a more detailed understanding of core modules 2-5
Aims: Introduce volcanic systems, volcanic types, scales, tectonic settings and general classification. Investigate how volcanic systems are preserved through their different deposit types and build up a facies analysis approach to interpreting volcanic basins
Core Module 2
Outline – A training manual and accompanying PowerPoint presentation investigating the key petrophysical properties of volcanic rocks, their interpretation from well data and their effect on drilling operations
Aims – The petrophysical variations found within common volcanic facies, their origins and their importance for hydrocarbon exploration and drilling
Core Module 3
Outline – A training manual and accompanying PowerPoint presentation investigating seismic wave propagation and imaging of volcanic basins, with focus on conventional marine seismic reflection data in volcanic basins
Aims – Give a basic understanding of why igneous rocks in sedimentary basins complicates seismic imaging and how to address these problems to get improved seismic imaging of basalt and sub-basalt sequences
Core Module 4
Outline: A training manual and accompanying PowerPoint presentation looking at the expression of volcanic units in seismic data and how to identify them
Aims: To equip the reader with the techniques and skills to successfully interpret seismic datasets in volcanically influenced basins
Core Module 5
Outline: A training manual and accompanying PowerPoint presentation
Aims: To investigate the impacts that volcanism and volcanic constructions may have on all aspects of the petroleum system
Including maturation effects, migration, trap formation, reservoir potential and sealing properties
Global examination of historical, present and prospective exploration and development of a wide range of volcanic associated plays
Core Module Reports: All the core modules are provided as extensive detailed reports to go with the Powerpoint versions. the headers of the reports match up to the footers of the reports for ease of navigation between both products
